Food calories and nutrition facts

2,557 foods and dishes: calories, macros, vitamins and minerals per 100 g, from national food composition databases — the same numbers the app counts with.

How we count

Where the data comes from, what the percentages are of and what “no data” means.

  • Sources National food composition databases: USDA FoodData Central (USA), ANSES-CIQUAL (France), CoFID (United Kingdom), BLS (Germany), Fineli (Finland) and others. Each food’s page names the database and the record’s code.
  • Dishes When the databases have no ready record, a dish is worked out from a recipe: ingredients in grams, each from a database.
  • Reference intakes Vitamins and minerals as a share of an adult’s daily reference intake under EU Regulation 1169/2011. Energy and macros against 2,000 kcal, 50 g of protein, 70 g of fat and 260 g of carbs, salt against 6 g.
  • Carbs For foods from the databases, available carbohydrates without fibre, as on EU labels. For the app’s basic foods, including fibre; the page says which.
  • Nutrition claims “Source of”, “high in”, “low fat” and “low salt” follow the thresholds of Regulation (EC) 1924/2006 per 100 g, per 100 ml for drinks.
  • Unknown isn’t zero When a database doesn’t give a nutrient, the page says “no data”, not zero.
